About NOTRA
We are affiliated with the Skybusters, Section #535 of the National Association of Rocketry. The Skybusters have been an extremely active high-power sport flying club for many years, have a good flying field in Amherst (west side of Cleveland) on which motors up to L class can be flown.
The Skybusters has its own trailer kept on the Amherst field for storing and transporting launch equipment.
Barry Lynch, former owner of LOC/Precision and Martin Dorociak of X-Rockets ( http://www.x-rockets.com ) are both co-founders of the Prefecture in addition to myself. LOC/Precision, of course, needs no introduction as it is the oldest high-power rocket company around. Martin Dorociak is the founder of X-Rockets, which produces hybrid rocket launchers and accessories.
Tripoli Level 1 flights and Level 2 certification testing is available and certification flights can be done at any of the scheduled launches with prior arrangements. The Prefect can be contacted at notra@earthlink.net or by phone at 440-449-2246.
Chris Pearson is a member of the Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) and can mentor anyone considering a Level 3 flight attempt both pre-flight and on launch day. TAP advising is not limited to members of NOTRA.
If you are a Research rocketeer, or interested in learning about what goes into making your own propellant and flying your own motors, NOTRA is the club for you. We have many experienced Research flyers in the group, and regularly hold propellant making seminars where you can have hands-on experience in mixing propellant and packing grains. Motors are also fired on our test stand demonstrating the latest in data acquisition equipment and software.
We can be as active as you want. It is all up to you. We always have stuff happening from hobby shows to Mixing Partys to Motor Testing to Launching Rockets, big or small we do them all ! |
NOTRA has participated in the Cleveland National Air Show, as well as other area air shows, and have had displays at local shopping malls, model airplane shows and the iHobby Show. The club meets four times a year but most of the time we're out flying rockets! Club launches are held monthly all year long, and our big spring launch, the Great Lakes Regional Meet Revisited (GLRMR) Launch, is held in May each year at the Amherst flying field.
If you are not already a member of an existing Prefecture, or if you've been looking for an active, exciting club with many experienced members who love to fly rockets, please consider joining ours.
